2MAKEiT

FabLab UCY, Department of Architecture, University of Cyprus

Description

2MAKEiT focuses on the design and construction of small-scale wooden structures, specifically urban seating, using conventional woodworking techniques, digital fabrication methods and hybrid approaches that combine both. As part of the project, students designed and constructed their own urban seating prototypes, gaining hands-on experience throughout the design-to-production process.

Paisios Skitini co-founded the design firm Thiasos Architecture, where he serves as a leading creative director. As an Adjunct Faculty member at the University of Cyprus, he contributes to academic education and research by teaching in the Department of Architecture. His work spans various architectural scales and emphasises research-led design, international competitions and a context-sensitive approach to space and materiality.

Alessandro Tellini (29.03.1984) is the Director of the Rapid Architectural Prototyping Laboratory (RAPLAB) and holds the Lecturer for Model and Design position at the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich. With a background in graphic and product design, Alessandro developed a strong interest in fabrication and construction early in his career. This practical knowledge has been applied to various projects, including architectural model-making, product development, and the fabrication of large-scale architectural prototypes.

Michael Lyrenmann heads ETH Zurich’s Robotic Fabrication Lab, leading a team of technicians who support research in digital fabrication and architecture. With expertise in carpentry and IT, he combines his knowledge of computer-controlled processes and application development in his current role. Previously, he worked at a small IT firm creating customised hardware, electronic and cloud-based solutions for clients. He also served as lead technician for Gramazio Kohler Research at ETH, overseeing the establishment of the first industrial robot-based research environment in architecture.
