Magic Lantern

Magic Lantern

Description

Magic Lantern is an interactive book installation that transforms the familiar act of reading into a shared experience of discovery. A physical book rests before the visitor. As its pages are turned, images, sounds and moving stories are illuminated, inviting the reader to explore hidden layers of memory, culture and imagination.

Magic Lantern is an innovative project and emerging startup based in Nicosia, Cyprus, operating at the intersection of cultural heritage, interactive technology and digital design. Developed by a multidisciplinary team of researchers, software engineers and creative technologists, the project specialises in building immersive media environments for galleries, libraries, archives and museums (GLAM sector).

Deeply rooted in the historic old town of Nicosia, the team creates tangible user interfaces and dynamic augmented reality experiences that breathe new life into traditional media. Their practice prioritises physical engagement, community storytelling and the democratisation of culture through accessible, cost-effective interactive equipment. By turning standard physical books into responsive multimedia platforms, Magic Lantern explores how collective memories and historical records are transmitted and preserved in the contemporary digital age.
