Waste on the Island

DETAILS

Date: Saturday, 17 October

Time: 16:00 – 17:00

Location:    Thinker Maker Space (Exhibition Space)

Description

Rubbish is an integral part of modern society. Whether we like it or not, waste is part of our human heritage. Observing Cyprus through the lens of waste provides a unique way to explore the challenges of the island. If we add historical perspective, we may find that the story of waste is much longer than we thought. Waste on the Island explores how domestic rubbish was treated in Nicosia and Cyprus during colonial times. It traces the roots of the problem back over a hundred years and highlights the different solutions used during the British Period. The exhibition is based on new academic research that reveals unknown, surprising facts in Cypriot history.
