Description

Cognitive Overload is a 30-minute immersive performance exploring psychoacoustics, sonic warfare and multisensory perception through sound, darkness, light and spatial immersion.

Structured in two distinct movements, the performance gradually shifts the audience from sensory deprivation to sensory overload.

The first movement unfolds in complete darkness in a space saturated with smoke. With visual references removed, attention turns towards sound and internal bodily awareness. Low-frequency drones, repetitive loops and fragmented vocals construct an immersive sonic environment in which listening becomes physical, spatial and deeply subjective.

In the second movement, light enters as a new perceptual force. Synchronised lighting and strobe sequences interact with the existing sonic environment, creating a continuous negotiation between what’s heard, seen and physically sensed. As auditory and visual stimuli begin to overlap and compete for attention, perception itself becomes unstable.

Drawing on research in psychoacoustics, embodied perception and multisensory integration, Cognitive Overload examines how sensory information can shape, disrupt and manipulate our perception of an environment. Moving between absence and excess, the work positions the audience not simply as listeners or observers, but as bodies within a constantly shifting perceptual landscape.

The audience experiences the performance seated on the floor, with alternative seating available for accessibility needs.
