At Least I'm Making Money

Description

At Least I’m Making Money is an interactive installation about how money, power and the arms industry uphold modern war. War tends to be framed as a conflict between nations: USA vs Iran, Russia vs Ukraine, Israel vs Palestine. But this hides another dimension. War is also a financial event. This layer is so abstract that we forget how it sustains war, and as systems collapse, the cost is counted in numbers, never in the people paying for it.

Money moves through society along invisible currents. It follows one goal: more. Whether invested directly or indirectly through pensions or savings, it ends up in index funds and ETFs that automatically buy whatever’s in the index. If an arms manufacturer is included, investors help finance them without choosing to. And the current runs unevenly — those who already own the most, benefit the most from precisely the companies that profit from instability. Capital flows back to where capital already is, and war provides one of its most reliable returns.

The real question is not only who finances war, but why a system is allowed to be structured so that peace seems to be less profitable than armament.
