Face of Universe
Tatsuru Arai in collaboration with Boris Vaitovič
Description
Face of Universe is an audiovisual media art project that mediates communication between human intelligence and AI to deepen our understanding of human perception and cognition. Viewing urban cities and their wild flora as modern continuations of an ecosystem born from solar energy, the artists perceive these wildflowers as the true “face of the universe”.
In this iteration, the collaborative duo documents the digital shapes of flowers in Kosice, Slovakia, and uses AI to recreate them. By synthesising these organic forms into immersive images and sound, the project creates a unique sensory experience that explores how urban environments and natural ecosystems can harmoniously coexist.
The principle of our ecosystem was born from nuclear fusion, or the energy of the sun. When Earth was born, the atmosphere contained large amounts of carbon dioxide and nitrogen and experienced very high temperatures. Hundreds of millions of years later, Earth’s surface cooled, and water vapour turned into rain that fell on the surface, forming the sea. About four billion years ago, plants were born in the sea. Long after that, our human civilisation began to form.

Tatsuru Arai is a composer, visual artist, and theorist who pioneeringly redefines the paradigms of musical history through his signature concepts: Hyper-Serial Music and Trans-Ages Music.
His seminal visual art project, Face of Universe, conceptualises a civilizational view that perceives the planetary system as an ecosystem and a circulation of energy, establishing a visual art form centred around flowers. By condensing the time axis of phenomena occurring within a segment of the ecosystem, the work expresses the fundamental principles and roots of ecosystems, including the energy flow from solar nuclear fusion, entropy and self-organisation. This sensory digital floral artwork functions as a gateway to his complex conceptual framework.
Based on these concepts, his musical work Re-solarization was performed at the Philharmonie de Paris as part of a programme by the Ensemble Intercontemporain, which was founded by Pierre Boulez. Face of Universe was also performed at the Berliner Philharmonie (Berlin Philharmonic Hall).
His work has been exhibited and performed at major global festivals and institutions, including the EMAP Residency ProgramACC / Asia Culture Center (South Korea), ISEA (International Symposium on Electronic Art)Transmediale (Berlin), Art Dubai (UAE), Art Basel Hong Kong (Hong Kong), Dangdai Art and Idea (Taiwan), Forthcoming Autumn 2026: Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) (Scotland).
Boris Vaitovič’s artistic work is devoted to the relativisation of established schemes of thinking and their visual representations. Theoretically, he studies the historical connection between science and art and how these tendencies overlap in the present.
He creates his work in painting, printmaking, photography, new media art and audiovisual interactive installations. In recent years, he has mainly worked on ecologically oriented projects, using residual energies and original hardware solutions. He is the author of several radio bands and a rehabilitation station for UNLP in Košice. He has presented his work in galleries and at media festivals at home and abroad.
