Liquid Boundary < > Narcissus

Description

Liquid Boundary <> Narcissus is an interactive installation that explores the dissolution of boundaries between self and matter through water, reflection, light and real-time sound.

A custom stand made from aluminium profiles supports a projector, camera, acrylic tube and vertical water element. A resonant speaker beneath the acrylic tube creates vibrations that continuously disturb the water’s surface. A camera captures the participant’s visual, projects it onto the water surface and translates this input into sound in real time. The reflected image never stabilises; it disperses into vibration, sound and movement. The viewer’s presence generates a constantly shifting environment over a fixed representation.

Through this process, the project creates a space where self and matter intra-act rather than oppose one another. The project combines the Greek myths of Narcissus and Medusa in its performative aspect, revealing a deeper connection between the two stories. Narcissus becomes captivated by his own reflection, while Medusa’s gaze transforms others. Together, these narratives frame reflection as a site of both observation and transformation.
