Warscrolling
m22
Description
War has become mundane in algorithmic social media. We can observe it casually while eating a meal or relieving ourselves. The platforms enable forensic investigation: Combatants share DIY weapons, ammunition details and field methods, bringing viewers closer to destruction than ever. Warscrolling is a form of doomscrolling that documents the hyperreality of war. Videos from various international authors are collected through social media algorithms and displayed in a custom app that mimics the short-video scroll interface.
Affiliations
The artwork was produced during the Critical Data course held by Manuela Naveau, Interface Cultures department, Kunstuniversität Linz, Austria.
Credits
All creators of selected videos are credited in the app, in the special section (map).
